How to register your child for school
- Go directly to the RSD school nearest you to register your child. A list of RSD schools is available via the link above.
- Registration hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- If a school has too many students already enrolled, the school will contact RSD Student Services to find an available spot for your child.
- The first day of school is August 18, 2008 for Grades 1-12
- Registered Kindergarten and Pre-K students will be tested individually by appointment at the school site August 18-22
- The first day of school for Kindergarten students is August 25, 2008
What you should bring:
- Proof that you live in New Orleans, such as a utility or phone bill
- Proof of age, such as a birth certificate or passport
- Your child’s Social Security card, if available
- Your child’s shot record
- If your child has been enrolled in school elsewhere, bring the most recent report card or whatever records you have.
- The most recent Individualized Education Program (IEP), if your child receives special education services.
- Immigrants do not need to bring any documents on their immigration status
Pre-K information
- Check with your neighborhood school to find out if pre-kindergarten spots are still available.
- Children must be four years old on or before September 30, 2008
- Bring proof of your child’s age and other documents listed above.
- If you receive food stamps, you must bring a copy of your Food Stamp eligibility letter
- You must also bring proof of income, such as an end of year paycheck stub, a W-2 form or Social Security income document.
- The first full day of school for Pre-K students is August 25, 2008.
